Honey Bees

2026 marks our 1st year as beekeepers!

Having attended an introductory course on beekeeping in 2023 to see if we could actually be around thousands of bees without running for the hills screaming (we stayed calm!), we have wanted to start our beekeeping journey but it wasn't the right time.

2026 is our year for bees.  We are taking over our landlords orchard.  It's a perfect area as it's fenced off from the rest of the farm.  We have a lot of work to do in preparation for our bees.  The orchard is overgrown, neglected and we need to install a gate as our only access at the moment is to climb through the fence.

Our intention for our bees will have a more natural approach, with the aim of leaving the bees with their own food source, we will only remove the surplus.

Having our own honey will contribute to our goal of becoming as self sufficient as possible, while also adding another income stream to our smallholding.  The wax will be used for soaps, creams, salves and candles.

Bring on the bees!
